Advice For Client Interviewing

Getting ready to meet a potential client can be exciting and a bit daunting. It’s your time to shine and show them what you have to offer.

But don’t worry, we’ve got your back! We’ve put together some tips to make sure you’re all prepped.

Before we dive in, know that being nervous is normal. Be yourself. You might be thinking “Ugh, I hear that all the time”, but we’re serious. A client is looking for someone to build a professional relationship with. You might be their person (and them yours) - it’s almost like finding a soulmate.

So how can you prep for your introductory meeting? We’ve got 3 tips that will help you:

  1. Do your research.

Do a little stalking (the professional kind, of course). Learn about your potential client’s business, what they do, and any recent buzz about them. Showing your interest will earn you some brownie points. You’ll be speaking their language. So have a look at their socials and website - it’s a good place to start.

  2. Be prepared to speak about yourself and your skills.

The potential client wants to know if your skills and experiences will be helpful while working with them. The best way to do this is to take notes while they’re describing the projects they want you to cover and note opportunities to mention how you are able to apply skills to solve their project woes.

You might get a potential client who will start the meeting off with “So tell me about yourself”. Oh gosh, where on Earth do you start right? Focus on the projects they’ve listed in their request for proposal. What skills have you learned that will come in handy while working on those projects? Subtly slide those in when introducing them to what you do, what your values are, and how you found your way to working as a virtual assistant.

  3. Don’t be shy - ask questions.

Remember, it's not just a one-way street. Ask questions about tasks, expectations, time frames, etc.. Ask anything else you might need to understand the role better. Also, ask about them! What makes them tick?

Prepping for an introductory call doesn’t need to be a stiff and formal affair. Remember, the interview isn’t just about impressing them; it’s also a chance to see if they’re the right fit for you. So, relax, be confident, and ace that interview!
